France's capital city is simply excellent for a romantic break or to take a cultural tour. However, one should not leave Paris without trying its haute cuisine and fine dining. After all, there is some of the best food to be enjoyed here. Try to experience foods that can be found in whatever location you are as you would not get that experience anywhere else in the world.  You might be trying some street food or dining in one of the luxury catered ski chalets in France. There are so many yummy things to eat in Paris that it is indeed impossible to savor them all. Read on to learn of the must-try foods in France.

1.      Duck confit
The confit method of cooking duck cooks the duck thighs in their own fat. Originally the method was devised to preserve fresh duck meat for future consumption. The meat is cooked until it is fork-tender and spectacularly moist. Few Parisian pride themselves in choosing the best producer, especially from the Southwest of France. The ducks are seared until the skin turns crisp and golden. Those heavenly garlicky potatoes sautéed in duck fat taste delicious, served as a side.

2.      Caramels
Caramels from Patrick Roger and Jacques Genin are simply amazing in texture. Those these little treats are rich and buttery in flavor. Your eyes are sure to light up with uncontrollable joy as you savor each morsel of caramel goodness. The legacy of salted butter caramel is so French! Today, it is available in different forms and used in cakes as well as caramel-based spreads.

3.      Cassoulet
It is impossible to resist those stewed white beans, pork confit, sausage crisp on top and succulent below.  A specialty of the French south-west, the mellow meatfulness appeals to all people. The dish is named so because of the traditional cooking vessel, the cassole, which is a deep earthenware pot with slanting sides. The towns of Toulouse, Carcassonne, and Castelnaudary are known as the traditional homeland of cassoulet.

4.      Baguette, Pain Au Chocolat, And Pastries
If you have not tasted a baguette or pastry in Paris, then you are certainly making a mistake. It is a must to try out those artisan boulangers and patisseries. Take advantage of those superior bread and baked goods and get your fair share of goodies daily. It is impossible to resist the delicious flaky pastry known as un pain au chocolat, which is a baked good made from a yeasty dough. Those delicious goodies can be enjoyed by both children and adults in the morning.

5.      Choucroute
Everything about Choucroute is excellent. The mighty dish with its fermented cabbage in a brass band dish brings forth atavistic roars of anticipation. The famous recipe is made with sausages and other salted meats and potatoes. There are many other examples of regional cuisine of France, which like cassoulet, carry an origin as a traditional and inexpensive dish. Today it is popular in recipes from contemporary chefs and restaurants and is available throughout France.

6.      Bouillabaisse
Bouillabaisse it the fishiest fish dish in the world and is a poor man's platter, like most French classics.  This is southern feistiness in the fish stew, with its broth as a soup, spicy rouille sauce and croutons. What makes a bouillabaisse different from other fish soups is the use of spices and Provençal herbs. The word ‘bouillabaisse’ actually is made from two words, to simmer and boil. Some of the best bouillabaisse restaurants in France are in Marseille.

7.      Raw-milk artisanal cheeses
The gastronomic hub of France, it is only in Paris that one can find amazing cheese shops. You can take a special cheesy Tour de France and taste your way through each region’s stars. Always favor raw-milk cheeses and the production of the artisanal cheese is a seasonal affair. It is seen that not all cheeses are made with raw milk. Many famous cheeses are almost vanished such as Tallance, Pastugal, Bleu de Termignon and Vacherin d’Abondance.

8.      Macarons
The delicate pastry made of two almond meringue shells with buttercream or ganache is simply heavenly. With Paris as its birthplace, macaroons come in different flavors and colors. Macarons have always been produced in those ancient Venetian monasteries. Moreover, Paris is renowned for its delicious macaroons, the mouthwatering French pastries. Make a trip to the legendary Ladurée to check out the best macarons!

9.      Potjevleesch
Potjevleesch is among the most distinctive and what makes it great as Northern France powered French industry, which is known for substantial dishes made of four white types of meat - veal, pork, chicken, and rabbit. Served with salads, gherkins, and chips, there is an abundance of meat here. Traditionally made in a ceramic dish, the meat is covered in water and vinegar, and cooked in a low heat on the oven.

1     Street-stand crêpes
Walking around Paris, you will come across plenty of stands selling crêpes everywhere. It is a must to try those genuinely native street foods that are indeed a lovely treat to indulge. Perfect as a light snack in the afternoon, get them made fresh and paper thin, right before you. Get ready for a pure and unadulterated crêpe experience. Eating a crepe just feels so Parisian, whether you use hands or eat them with a fork and knife. You will find plenty of stalls in Montparnasse neighborhood. Enjoy your crepe made fresh with freshly grated cheese or loaded with salad and meat or in a sweet flavor.

The House of Griddle - A Game of Thrones Fan's Dream Come True

If you haven't heard of The House of Griddle then you know nothing, Jon Snow. It's a quaint food stall at The Yard Streetfood Cinema dedicated to Game of Thrones fans. It's complete with memorabilia of the hit TV series and great food too.

House Stark Special (P139)

"Winter is coming." That line may not be possible in the Philippines but they have the next best thing and that's this herbed pork dish. It's special herbed pork belly with mushroom and glazed brown sauce. Ohh, the things I do for love.

House Tyrell Special (P169)

Wow, this bunless burger patty was cooked to perfection. I loved the homemade barbeque sauce too. This is definitely my favorite out of the big 4. If you don't believe me, don't take my word for it. After all, a lion doesn't concern himself with the opinion of sheep.

House Lannister Special (P169)

When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die. Meanwhile, if you order this sumptuous Shrimp Gambas from Chef JV, I'd say you definitely win. I'm not biased since it's shrimp. I do mean it.

House Baratheon Special (P169)

If there ever was a king of Korean dishes, I'd say this is it. It's loaded with beefy Sirloin strips marinated to perfection. But then again, any man who must say 'I am the King' is no true king.

Whenever you're at the newest food park in the Metro, head over to the House of Griddle as they have astonishing food. How do I know that? That's what I do: I drink and I know things.

Cu Chi Bar - The Newest Hangout Place in Poblacion

New bars have been popping around the Poblacion area in Makati. However, none has been more interesting than this hip Vietnamese bar on top of Senor Pollo. It's a little hidden but once you find it, you'd wanna come back over and over again. The vibe is chill and the drinks are heavenly.

 Cu Chi Mule (P250)

Our first drink, the Cu Chi Mule combines 8-year Tanduay Rhum with Pineapple Juice. I can sense grenadine was added too. This one's a little sweet for my liking though.

 Cu Chi Cucumber Mojito (P220)

I love drinks with cucumber so it was no surprise how my favorite drink for the night was the Cu Chi Cucumber Mojito. There sure were a lot of mint in this drink and that's not a bad thing at all.

Fresh Spring Rolls with Prawn (P195)

If you want eat healthy food to go back to being sober, I recommend you try their fresh spring rolls. The best part is it comes with fresh prawn.

 Chicken BBQ Skewer (P170)

 Beef BBQ Skewer (P180)

Both skewers were a little spicy so consider yourself warned. The only thing I have to complain about is I wish there were more sticks. Other than that, each bite is guaranteed to make you want more.

 Chocolate Martini (P220)

There may not be much dessert dishes here but you can always opt for the Chocolate Martini. From the looks of it, it looks like a rock, salt & cheese type of milk tea. However, the alcohol will kick in later so drink this early.

 Beef Noodle Soup (P220)

I find myself craving for beef noodle soup often so I was happy they serve this dish. It's served with lots of onions too and that's always a good thing. Now that it's rainy season, I highly recommend this well-cooked dish.

Braised Beef with Rice (P230)

Finally, we had the braised beef with rice. I was highly impressed with this dish as the meat was cooked tenderly. However, I also found it a little bit "soupy." I guess I was looking for more in terms of taste.

17 Dishes You Must Try at The Yard Streetfood Cinema

The long wait is over. The newest concept of the Yard is finally open. It's called the Yard Streetfood Cinema because there's a big outdoor movie theater. You're definitely going to be entertained while enjoying good food. The reason for the concept is because it's in Timog, a street that's near two giant TV networks. We got to try a lot of food and here are 17 dishes you shouldn't miss:

1. Iron Man from The Yard Quenchers

Would you believe their cocktails are named after The Avengers? We tried Tony Stark himself and it contains sprite, lime, margarita mix, mint and rum. Wait until you see what happens when you order the Incredible Hulk. I won't spoil it for you but it will surely be a smash (pun intended).

 2. Shamrock from Top Dawgs

This hotdog has a lot of flavor in it as its topped with pesto, pizza sauce, tomatoes and melted mozzarella. If you're not a fan of hotdogs, I guarantee Shamrock will make you one.

 3. Grilled Pork Belly from Pitmaster Grill

If you're craving for something grilled, The Pitmaster Grill has got you covered. When I tried the Grilled Pork Belly, I knew right away it was grilled to perfection. They're certainly a meat lover's dream come true.

 4. Lily Tacollins (Taco Pizza) from Pipa

Wow, can you believe the pizzas from Pipa are all named after Hollywood celebrities? You need to try Whiteney Houston (White Pizza), Egg Sheeran (Salted Egg Pizza) and Katy Peppery (Pepperoni Pizza). We got to try Lily Tacollins (Taco Pizza) and it's got everything that's usually in a taco. The thin crust is also crunchy just the way I like it.

 5. Butterfly Squid from Above Sea Level

It's hard to deny the popularity of Above Sea Level's Butterfly Squid. When I first saw them at Yard Underground, I swear I would always see a table with a huge butterfly squid in it every time I go there. I never got to sample it until now and I instantly became a fan. It comes with free java rice too.

6. Crazy Ramen Long (P140) from Crazy Sushi MNL

Perhaps the most unique dish in the entire food park is the Crazy Ramen Long from Crazy Sushi MNL. It's not like anything I've seen before as it's a huge foot long covered in crunchy noodles. It tickled my taste buds in ways I'd never imagined with every bite.

7. Choco Crunch from Churro Ice Cream

For those who love Churro, we've got good news as there's some here too. With every stall in the Yard, your eyes will just grow bigger as the awesome food choices keep on coming. There's more that meets the eye though. The Churro is on top of ice cream and there are lots of flavors to choose from. We got the choco crunch flavor and it was such a great treat.

8. Chocolate Chimney Twirl from Chimney Twirls

Perhaps the best way to end your meal at the Yard is to have of the Chimney Twirls. It's ice cream wrapped in freshly baked bread. We got the chocolate flavor and it oozes with chocolate syrup with lots of kit kats on top. Be sure to eat it before it melts though.

9. Beef Potato Balls from Hakuna Patata

Any stall that's all about Potatoes always gets me excited so I was happy there's Hakuna Patata. We got a very unique dish in the Beef Potato Balls. It's loaded with 3 nacho beef and cheese with garlic ranch injections. This one is freshly cooked so be careful when taking a bite because it's hot on the inside. It guarantees maximum satisfaction though.

10. Beef Tikka from Tikka Tikka Shawarma Burrito

Tikka Tikka is a one of a kind stall that offers Shawarma Burritos. They have three types in Chicken, Beef and Prawn. We had the Beef Tikka and I loved it. It's very affordable too as it's only P140 with a drink.

11. Smokey Wazowski from Stuff It

I'm always craving for burgers so I was happy when I saw Stuff It. We had the Smokey Wazowski (a clever tribute to the Monsters Inc. character). It was loaded with ingredients I love which was onion rings, bacon, mixed veggies, cheddar cheese and of course 100% burger patty. Seriously, what's not to like about this burger?

12. House Tyrell Special - Bunless Burger Patty from House of Griddle

You can tell the owners of House of Griddle are huge Game of Thrones fans due to the concept of their stall. I talked with one of the owners, JP and he revealed they named their stall, House of Griddle because their food is cooked on a griddle. They have an international cuisine type of stall and we got the House Tyrell Special which is a Bunless Burger Patty. What's more is JP told me they formulated their own BBQ sauce. I guess that's why this dish is so flavorful and yummy at the same time.

13. The Mouth Breather from Naughty Nachos

If you plan to drink at the Yard, I advise you to eat nachos too so you won't get drunk. The Mouth Breather from Naughty Nachos is perfect as it's loaded with jalapeno, bacon and lots of cheese. Since there were lots of cheese, that's always a plus. It's also good for 2 to 3 hungry peeps.

14. Bulalo Pasta from The God Pasta

My favorite out of all the dishes we tried? The Bulalo Pasta! It's yummy bulalo beef bits on top of creamy carbonara. There's seriously nothing to dislike about this dish. Major props to the God Pasta for coming up with it.

15. Sriracha Wings from Mac n' Chicks

I was expecting the Sriracha Wings from Mac n Chicks to be very spicy. I was surprised that it wasn't that spicy which is good news for me since I have low tolerance for spicy food. Their french fries is not too salty too as it combines well with their wings. I can't wait to try their other flavors when I come back.

16. Quarter Chicken from A Taste of Afrika by Onne

The old expression "maybe the chicken is still alive" after accidentally dropping food on the floor holds true in this dish as the quarter chicken from A Taste of Afrika is literally standing up. If you love spicy peri-peri chicken, dip it in their chili sauce. I guarantee you won't regret it.

17. Ribs Popcorn from Lord of the Ribs

While watching a movie there, you'll be craving for popcorn right? Say hello to the Ribs Popcorn of Lord of the Ribs. It's the perfect snack that mixes well with your late night movie marathon at the Yard.

I give my overall experience at The Yard Streetfood Cinema a two thumbs up. I've never been so full. Trust me when I say this: There are so many more dishes to try here. Bring along the entire squad there today.

Recap of #teamaldouson4 at Wingman

It was not your normal Saturday night as Team Aldous celebrated its 4th anniversary with the only way we know how - A FUN TIME! We had quiz night and a beer pong tournament in one night! There was no better place to sponsor this giant occasion than the best wings restaurant in the country - Wingman.

Here's me warming up for the gigantic beer pong tournament. I thought it would be a great idea for the entire group to bond over fun games other than the usual dinner.

I can't count the number of times I dined at Wingman. Their food is simply superb. Other than the wings, they have excellent burritos, burgers and corn dogs too. It's a perfect place to chill with friends. The staff are friendly too.

The owner Erik Waldie once again hosted quiz night. For those who are keeping track, this is the 7th Team Aldous quiz night and the 3rd one hosted by Wingman. I have to say Erik is the best host as he brings a lot of energy into the activity. As expected, there were a lot of geeky questions including a "guess the movie where the car chase is happening" part.

All of us aren't used to beer pong but once we got the hang of it, we had a lot of fun. Everyone was so competitive, which made the game even more exciting.

Wow, I didn't expect it to be a huge night for my team for both the quiz night and beer pong tournament. I guess me and Christine got lucky. We won this cool Wingman Beer Pong black shirt. For those who don't know, I love black shirts because it hides my huge tummy.

We had a fantastic time! Thanks a lot to Wingman! I love the place and I'll definitely be back.

Alex & Claude - The Ultimate Hangout

When I came to Alex & Claude, I didn't expect much. However, I was really overwhelmed. I guarantee you're going to come home with a smile on your face whenever you come here. The place is a multiple-use space so other than the healthy food available, there are a lot of things for sale.

There's a P299 buffet that includes either a cup of Nespresso coffee or unlimited soda. It's such a great price for a buffet especially in the BGC area. You have a lot to choose from in the buffet too including sushi, lumpia, roasted chicken, barbeque, chap chae and a lot more.

Don't forget about dessert! There's some treats here that satisfy your sweet cravings without making you fat.

The Ground Floor can contain 25 people and nearby offices would usually reserve this space for company bonding moments. Believe it or not, it was originally meant to be a health grocer back in April of this year. It got turned into a food mart 3 months later due to popular demand.

When you climb to the second floor, there's a spa, a tiles store and Smiggle. What's Smiggle? We were told it's a place where kid's dreams come true. It has a bunch of kiddie items that will make your kids smile.

Those who are fans of eggs would love Iltogsaeyo. It's a ready to eat roasted egg that's best eaten with coffee. Breakfast never became this good.

Lokalitea and Basic Juicery are drinks without artificial sweeteners and lots of sugar. Basic Juicery has a lot of excellent choices and my favorite is Mandarin Twist which contains Mandarin Orange, Lime, Mango and Pineapple.
