A new larger than life cooking school will soon rise at the Bonifacio Global City beside SM Aura. The Dusit Hospitality Management College promises to be the most technologically advanced culinary school in the metro. It's a good thing I was lucky enough to be invited to the preview of this project. The school's Managing Director, Lars Eltvik was even on hand to give a background on the college which is expected to launch in late August.
It turns out the building is not only composed of a school but a hotel too. The school itself has many amenities including a place where the students can chill and meet other students. There's also an open kitchen coffee shop that serves phenomenal food. Truth be told, I'm very excited for the school to open. It will give great opportunities to people who want to learn to cook. The college even has experts from its partner institutions all over the world coming over to share their expertise.
Afterwards, Dusit Hospitality Management College's Director of Culinary Arts, Chef Cyrille Soenen gave a cooking demo on the making of Foie Gras. Of course, the best part about the demo was sampling the food. =D
Who joined Chef Cyrille? None other than Actor/Director Joel Torre. How ironic is it that he's on the job here? When it comes to whipping up good food, consider Chef Cyrille as a perfectionist. With his long list of accomplishments, he's the best choice to be the director of DHMC.
Joel Torre told us he was planning on becoming a chef as his second career when he retires in the showbiz industry. It's not a bad decision as lots of showbiz personalities end up starting their own restaurants after learning how to cook. Who knows? You may become a successful entrepreneur after learning how to cook at DHMC.
The following is the official press release:
Manila, Philippines, 21 March 2018 – Students and young professionals looking to
pursue a career in hospitality management and the culinary arts can begin their
journey this year at what promises to be the most advanced and
internationally-integrated hospitality management school in Southeast Asia.
Introduced in 2016,
Dusit Hospitality Management College (DHMC), nearing completion in Bonifacio
Global City, brings together three of the most trusted names in international
hospitality and culinary education -- Dusit International, Switzerland’s
world-renowned École Hôtelière de Lausanne,
and Institut Paul Bocuse from Lyon, France - to offer students education and training
aligned with the highest international standards.
“It makes perfect
sense for Dusit International to situate its first college outside Thailand in
Manila. Filipinos are well known and
respected in the global hospitality industry as hard working, creative and
dependable. Culturally, Filipinos are
warm, hospitable people with a natural inclination to succeed in the
hospitality industry,” explains Lars Eltvik, DHMC and dusitD2 Hotel The Fort
Managing Director, a 30-year veteran in international hospitality education and
operations. “Dusit Hospitality Education is proud to establish in the
Philippines and to bring to the country the very best of international
educators in hospitality and culinary arts.
We want to introduce programmes and pedagogy of the highest
international standard and in time contribute to more Filipinos and Asians
excelling into senior management positions, both in the region and world-wide.”
The DHMC curriculum for the bachelor degree in
hospitality management follows the Philippine Commission on Higher Education’s
(CHED’s) standards. The programme is also approved and certified by École
Hôtelière de Lausanne. Integrated in the programme the students must complete a
6 months internship. This can be completed in the Philippines or
internationally.
Beyond the
College’s international partnerships, DHMC promises its students ‘more than an
education’ where they will gain work experience throughout the different areas
of the hotel. Dusit Hospitality Management College is fully integrated with
dusit D2 the Fort Manila hotel. This unique integration allows students to
study as well as gain relevant work experience at different levels throughout all
the departments in the hotel during their studies. The college occupies the
first 9 floors of the 27-storey building where both students and hotel guests
alike will enjoy and appreciate the ‘behind the scenes theme’ of the college
and hotel.
Upon completion, the college and the dusitD2 The
Fort Manila hotel will include world-class hospitality education facilities,
including practical kitchens, 5 restaurant outlets, function rooms,
