Why Do You Have to be so Rue?

Can I have your Roasters for the rest of my life? Say Yes! Say Yes! We all know how that song goes but seriously, you are going to be so ruuuude if you only go to Rue Bourbon to drink because they have awesome food as well. Of course, the highlight of this place is still the Big Ass Caramel Beer.

Bourbon Onion Rings (P215)

 Calamari N' Fries (P380)

Onion Rings and Calamari N' Fries are usually the stuff you would order while drinking beer right? They are both deep fried to golden crisp as the Calamari N Fries comes with spicy aioli dip while the Onion Rings comes with original bbq sauce and chili remoulade. It should also be noted that all the food at Rue are for sharing (unless you have an appetite like mine) so don't be alarmed by the prizes.

 Bacon and Beef Potatoes (P325)

Sisig Nachos (P395)

Oh wow, I really enjoyed the Bacon and Beef Potatoes a lot as in I was munching it bite after bite. The Sisig Nachos is one of their best sellers and I quickly found out why. It is because it is something that you will remember after diving into it.

 Four Cheese Pizza (P395)

I know it would not be wise to eat a lot of this pizza since we were supposed to be served a lot of food on this night but I did not really care as I love four cheese pizza. Their version simply ruled my taste buds. What a delightful treat.

Saturday evening jumped out to drink....all these flavored beers! They have a lot of that and trying them all should be in your bucket list. We ended up trying them all and I could not tell what was going on in my tummy afterwards. They just added the Strawberry flavor and it is indeed a winner. The Caramel flavor is still the best though.

Asian, Buffalo and Bourbon Wings (P335)

We were served a combination of Buffalo Wings, Bourbon Wings and Asian Wings. It is also the start of food you should eat when you are a little tipsy already after having one too many caramel beers. At first, I was worried the wings were spicy but they weren't that much. For those who like it spicy though, there's the hot sauce.

Angel Hair Pasta (P299) and Seafood Lasagna (P299)

I was craving for seafood and these two pasta dishes answered my prayers. I now know where to go whenever me or one of my friends is craving for seafood.

 Half Slab (P520)

I love baby back ribs and I'm so glad we got to taste their version. Wow, it is such a steal for its price and it goes well with whatever side dish you choose. I am all up for ordering this again when I get back. Its tenderness is addicting.

We were served A LOT of drinks throughout the night and I really recommend all of them. Sadly, the quality of my photos were not up to par so I can only post a few. Not to worry though as I will surely update this post when I get back there which is in the VERY near future.

 Alexander the Great

I can't understand why they named this drink after the famous Roman legend but it had me hooked in. I found out it contains bourbon whiskey, spiced syrup, fresh lime, honey and ginger ale so it was understandably a drink to remember.

I forgot what you call this drink buy it did contain orange and that is always a plus.

Crystal Ball

This drink containing fresh draft beer, lemon, honey and Tenessee whiskey made me see my future. It involves drinking down this heavenly drink.

It also contains me going back to Rue over and over again. What a great time we had there.

Comfort Italian Food at its Finest at Mama Lou's

Located at the brand new wing of UP Town Center, Mama Lou's is one restaurant that will give you a lasting impression. I am an eater who is hard to please and on my first visit here, I declare their food is something to remember.

Escargots (P395)

I actually thought I was eating oysters when I dug into these Escargots but it turns out they were snails that are imported from Europe. The fact that they are baked in parsley and butter only made things much better.

 Mama Lou's Special (12" P350, 14" P450)

 Pizza Bianca (12" P275, 14" P375)

I absolutely loved everything about the Pizza Bianca. It is filled with bacon, mushroom, mozzarella and cream. Who dislikes Bacon right? Meanwhile, the Mama Lou's Special is something you should order when you go here for the first time. Located in the middle of each slice is prosciutto and mango. What a treat!

 Truffle Mac & Cheese (P285)

The Truffle Mac & Cheese just satisfied my cravings for some sweet pasta. It certainly defined what comfort food is all about.

 Marbled Ribeye Steak (P695)

Their Marbled Ribeye Steak is cooked medium rare. It is also very tender and it definitely defines how I like my steaks cooked.

 Seafood Alfredo (P325)

I never thought seafood and pasta would make a great combination and the alfredo sauce that topped it off is like putting on the finishing touches.

 Chicken Fra Diavalo (P390)

I saw on their menu that their food is customer satisfaction guaranteed and I have to completely agree. The Chicken Fra Diavalo is a perfect example of that. This oven roasted chicken with rosemary garlic can't possibly be compared with the roasted chicken you see in supermarkets. It is simply in a class of its own.

 Risotto Tartufo Funghi (P325)

I love Risotto so much that I could not resist going into a restaurant without ordering it when I see it on the menu. Their best-selling Risotto is the Risotto Tartufo Funghi and it is full of mushroom and truffle cream. I really recommend to combine this with their meaty dishes.

 Mama Lou's Cheesecake (P180)

 Chocolate Cake (P160)

Mango Crepe (P225)

To satisfy our sweet tooth, we had three dessert dishes. The cakes were great but it can't possibly be compared to the Mango Crepe. That's just me being biased though since I am a crepe person but I really loved it. It was a good thing there was a little space in my tummy after all that food we ate.

That Baler Trip to the Circle Hostel

The Circle Hostel just opened their largest branch to date at Baler and you know what that means? It is time for another Team Aldous team building whoop dee doo. Before going though the hostel, I must admit the road trip is part of the experience so I have to share some awkward moments to say the least during the trip:

Phya: Knock knock!

Ave: Who's there?

Phya: Avelovin

Ave: Avelovin who?

Everyone: Avelovin Youuuuuuuuuu foreverrrrrr

Me: Forrrrevahhhh

*everyone gives me a blank stare*

Another one...

Jen: So what's the difference between a backpacker and a flashpacker?

Me: A backpacker carries a backpack and a flashpacker carries a flashlight.

*awkward moment of silence while I was laughing*

Dani: Sige lang, Aldous. Kaya mo yan!

Kidding (or lack of it) aside, the new branch made some improvements including a presence of a kitchen for those who would really want to save up on their meals. Just like other branches, feel free to leave your mark on the hostel by painting anything you want except vulgar words. Don't forget the #therearenostrangers theme of the hostel as we met an awesome cast of characters when we checked in here. There was a Titas of Manila group, a kid who skateboards better than I do, a dude who can't keep a shirt on and of course, a stunning foreigner.

Couples can now enjoy private rooms too even though I heard one branch already has it. For those thinking they can enjoy an air con inside, there's none of that. My tip is to choose the hammocks though since they are the cheapest and you are not supposed to spend too much time in the hostel when you are on vacation, right? For their rates, check out thecirclehostel.com

This year is the year I really appreciated yoga and I'm glad we did basic yoga poses at Baler. It is just so hard to swallow when I remember those moments I was sweating so hard and everyone was still dry. It was like I was making a small pond on my mat and I can already see my reflection.

Whoooo! Nothing like riding an ATV while at the beach. OKAY SO I JUST BORROWED IT FROM KUYA ATV (ANO PA BA ITATAWAG SA KANYA?) PARA MAGPAPICTURE. Ang poser eh noh?

After a long hike where I continuously screamed "Are we there yet?", we finally arrived at the Mother Falls. I must say it is great to swim after such a calorie burning walk. There is even a rock there where you can do a mermaid pose. For some reason, I climbed up on it and did a Mermen pose and I will probably never post that picture for obvious reasons.

We were supposed to play drinking games at night but Raf (one of the owners) fell asleep too early. I guess no drinking games is better than playing drinking games where some of the players drank water as punishment. Yes, it actually happened last time we were in La Union. I guess it is still drinking though.

We also did the Passion & Purpose workshop which lets you discover your true passion in life. I won't spoil anything here like it's a TV series but I recommend you take it without expecting anything. All I remember was that it was great talking to my new Ukrainian friend since I told her that I have already been to some European countries like France and Germany. I can't believe she bought that, though? =O

6 Dishes to Try at Feta Restaurant

I can't deny the excitement I had when I was on my way to Feta Restaurant. I'm a big fan of Mediterranean cuisine so it was a good thing I was able to get through the heavy rains to make it here. It was a good thing their food did not disappoint. In fact, it did the opposite as it thoroughly impressed me and my blogger friends.

Yogurt Shake (P129)

I love Yogurt Shakes so I marked out like a mad man when I saw that they have it. You have the option of having it sweet or salty and it was a no-brainer which one I was going to choose. I highly recommend you to order this when you pay this restaurant a visit.

Speaking of order, here are 6 dishes you should definitely order at Feta:

Vegetarian Moussaka (P280)

Moussaka is basically lasagna and I chose the vegetarian version over the beef version. It was good except that it has a weird taste and it may be because of camote being mixed in it but that is far from a definite.

Mixed Souvlaki Platter (P1350 for 4)

Wow, talk about everything but the kitchen sink in the Mixed Souvlaki Platter. You got adarna, chicken wings, souvlaki chicken and shawarma here. If this isn't a meat lover's dream come true then I don't know what is.

Grilled Moroccan Lamb Chops (P590)

My favorite by far is the Grilled Moroccan Lamb Chops. I have to applaud their chef as it was cooked to perfection. The meat is tender and it is something worth ordering over and over again.

Greek Pizza (Mozzarella Cheese P240 Minced Beef P320)

I have to admire their creativity in this boat shaped pizza filled with tomatoes, bell peppers and lots of cheese. It is one of those dishes that is best eaten when freshly cooked. If it is left on the table for a long time then it won't taste that good anymore.

Profiteroles (P180 3 pcs)

Kanafeh(P280 good for two, P380 good for four)

Wow, talk about saving the best for last. Both dessert dishes were so good that I'd consider coming back here for the dessert alone.

Overall, Feta is a restaurant that you should certainly pay a visit whenever you are in the Greenhills area.
