Drifting through the Pearl River Cafe

Coming from the same guys who brought you Shi Lin restaurant comes Pearl River Cafe.  I was actually amazed when I saw the prices of the food here.  I expected them to be high but they were not which is shocking considering they are located at a mall.  I met up with my homies from OpenRice for an Eats a Date event.  It was raining hard so I ended up being the only one on time for the event.  I honestly could not wait to get my hands on some classic Cantonese dishes.

It did not take long before I said yes to this event since Trinoma is just my neighbor.  We started off with the Prawn Salad (P299) and I really enjoyed the shrimp bits here.  It is too bad the fruits under it were ignored by me and the other bloggers.

A Chinese meal is never complete without Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (P99).  Their version is highly recommended and much appreciated too.

The Fried Golden Rice with Assorted Mushroom and Egg White (P199) is one rice dish that is actually healthy since it does not have any meat in it.  I am sure vegetarians would love this one.

The Steamed Crab Roe and Shrimp Siomai (P99) is one original Pearl River dish that I will surely order on the next visit.  I was able to taste both the crab and shrimp in this one.

One of the first dishes that came out was the Congee with Seafood (P199).  I did not actually get a taste of this one because I wanted to save my appetite.  It turned out to be a bad call on my part because the other bloggers liked it.

My favorite was the Asparagus with Shredded Pork (P199).  I loved the tenderness of the pork bits here and the asparagus was spot on.

The Beef and Broccoli (P99) is the most affordable beef and broccoli I have ever seen.  You would think they did something with it to make it cheaper.  One of the bloggers actually wondered why their prices are that low.  It is like it is in some kind of a promo.

It is too bad the Half Steamed Specialty Chicken (P399) is not boneless.  It goes well with their different selections of fried rice.

The Pan Fried Radish Cake (P99) is not that sticky like I expected.  In fact, it was a lot better than I expected it to be.

For a sweet ending, I had the Coconut Milk Sago (P78).  This dessert dish is actually unique in its own way.  It is a great way to end the meal.

I certainly enjoyed my visit to Pearl River Cafe and I have a hunch it won't be long before I am back here enjoying their affordable food again.
